The 2014 Ausone has retained that purity, pastille-like red berry fruit on the nose, with touches of clove and bay leaf, perhaps almost Burgundian in terms of its allure. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, pliant tannins that manifest its velvety texture. This might be the most seductive of any 2014 Bordeaux, fanning out beautifully towards the almost citrus-fresh finish. Gorgeous. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.

Tasted blind. Youthfully dark colour. And youthfully fresh dark fruit. Juicy, very fresh, the tannins fully resolved, just a little bit tutti-frutti flavoured on the finish and quite marked acidity so the balance is only just there. Going back, I marked this up another half point because it really improved as the wine settled in the glass. (JH)

A poised, controlled and slow-revealing Ausone, as ever you feel at the 10 year mark that it is just starting to get revved up. The layers of subtle complexity are stunning, peony, rosebud, raspberry, creme caramel, salted cracker, so delicate and yet relentless, with a fresh petals fragrance that is hard to capture, keeps you invested and looking for another sip. The limestone soils come through with a mouthwatering rise through the finish. 85% new oak.

Tasted blind. Crimson with a pale rim. Fresh nose with sweetness underneath and nicely ready. A little bit of sweet chocolate and obvious ripeness underneath with some buttery notes. Angélus? Not the most appetising finish. (JR)
