The 2014 Larrivet Haut-Brion has a little more fruit concentration on the nose than the Les Carmes Haut-Brion: fleshy red berry fruit, brown spices and dried blood. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly peppered entry and fine depth. It's fresh, though evolved with sage and bay leaf towards the finish. Just fades away earlier than expected. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

Tasted blind. Very dark garnet with bricky rim. Ripe and a little bit stewed in fruit character, quite evolved. Tea leaves. Thick, smooth tannins. Generous fruit but somewhat burly overall. (JH)

The 2014 Larrivet Haut-Brion has a generous bouquet with brambly red berry fruit, briary and wild heather. It is not quite as complex as its peers. The palate is medium-bodied, quite evolved with rather chunky tannin, though not course, rigid in the mouth with a lightly spiced finish. Not bad, but just par for the course. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Smudgy crimson. Round and correct with some flattering oak treatment even if not overtly oaky. Slightly sour oily note on the end. (JR)
