The 2013 Pinot Noir Kistler Vineyard is marked by large swaths of tannin that give the wine its brooding personality. Scents of game, smoke and dried leaves add an attractive savory upper register. Today, the 2013 is a bit burly and rough around the edges, something I did not see in this wine a year ago.
The 2013 Pinot Noir Kistler Vineyard comes across as delicate and nuanced today, with lovely delineation in its dark red/purplish fruit. Polished, silky tannins convey an impression of finesse as the layers of fruit continue to open up in the glass. Perfumed mint and spice notes add to the wine's overall complexity.
The 2013 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) lifts from the glass with crushed flowers and pretty red berry flavors. More savory notes develop on the delicate finish. The 2013 is a touch fleeting, as so many Pinots in this vintage are, so it is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. This is a very pretty appellation-level wine from Kistler.
