Concentrated crimson. Quite backward and savoury on the nose with hints of full, sweet fruit. Lots of ripe strawberry and cherry fruit and zippy acidity on the palate. Very long, fragrant finish, if tannic and a little dry. (WS)

Dark red cherries, plums, spices, worn-in leather and smoke are some of the notes that meld together in Poggio Antico's 2013 Rosso di Montalcino. This is one of the darker, more voluptuous Rossos of the vintage. Eight months in French oak softens some of the young Sangiovese contours in a dark, supple Rosso to drink over the next year or two.
