(14.5% alcohol): Bright red-ruby. Very ripe, slightly high-toned aromas of crushed dark berries and sexy oak. Supple and concentrated but a bit porty and extreme for my taste. Concentrated dark fruit flavors show nicely integrated acidity and sweet, harmonious tannins but the nutty oak element gives the wine a slightly heavy, even oxidative quality. Tannins are suave, though. Thicker and more modern than the entry-level 2013 Pinotage but more exotic.

The 2012 Reserve Pinotage is a definite step up from the regular Pinotage, with clearly much more fruit intensity on the nose. The palate is rounded with blackcurrant pastille on the entry, nicely judged acidity and a pleasant, simple and supple finish.
