Tasting notes
The 2012 Rall Red Blend is a blend of Syrah from shale soils and Grenache from sandier soils, both in Swartland. Donovan sourced fruit from just two vineyards in order to pick a little earlier and make a fresher, more delicate red. It has a sophisticated bouquet with mineral-rich raspberry and wild strawberry fruit that is very focused and well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy cranberry and blackcurrant fruit, firm but taut tannins with great backbone and focus on the finish. This is very classy and should repay time in the cellar. It is quite simply another Swartland humdinger courtesy of Donovan Rall.
