The Trimbach 2007 Riesling – from purchased fruit – boasts unusually high (7.9 grams) acidity that translates into positive brightness of lemon and pineapple, and finishes with invigorating and lasting suggestions of citrus rind bittersweetness, tingling pineapple, and chalk dust.. ”The yeasts were very efficient in 2007,” notes Jean Trimbach, pointing to a collection of wines several of which are below one gram in residual sugar. The grapes and people did good work, too: I cannot recall a collection at this address that was more consistently fine. Only three special bottlings were essayed by Trimbach in 2006, all Riesling, of which the Frederic Emile and Clos Ste. Hune are among the high points of this vintage in Alsace. Restrained and limey. Dense, fresh, very correct. Long and a fine spicy note on the crisp finish. (JH)
Their classic bottling. To be released spring 2009 . Still very tight and dry. Certainly healthy and piercing with an interesting mint toffee undertow. Very classic – still quite austere. Wait! 12.5% alcohol – plenty, says Jean Trimbach. (JR)
Pure, subdued aromas of citrus peel, flowers and menthol. Pure and intense for this basic-level riesling, with good grip to the very dry flavors of white peach, lemon, flowers and minerals. (Come to think of it, the 2005 version was quite successful too, given that this wine is mostly from purchased grapes.) Finishes with good length and focus. This is 12.5% alcohol with a relatively elevated 7.9 grams of acidity, which Trimbach says is the highest of all his '07 bottlings except for the pinot gris SGN.
