Score 94/100 · Drink 2009-2022, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Dec 2009

The 2007 Shiraz Coach House Block from Seppeltsfield Road in Greenock was also aged in 50% new oak for 20 months. The aromatics are slightly reticent but reveal aromas of pain grille, pepper, lavender, incense, game, and blueberry. Ripe, sweetly-fruited, and layered, it will benefit from several more years of cellaring and drink well through 2022. Michael Twelftree’s Two Hands negociant label is solid but not quite up to the standards established by the past several years because of the challenging 2007 and 2008 vintages in South Australia. The wines are discussed in the order in which they were presented. The Garden Series is designed to highlight Shiraz from a diversity of appellations (or GIs as they are known in Australia). Inky purple color. Deep, assertive aromas of cassis, black raspberry, mocha and licorice, with a suggestion of fruitcake. Palate-saturating dark fruit flavors are firmed by a tangy mineral note and become spicier with aeration. Distinctly rich and large-scaled yet well focused, with impressive finishing lift and mounting minerality.
