Tasting notes
White golden color, the 2012 Gewürztraminer Calcaire is a blend of younger vines from the Hengst Grand Cru and the vineyard closed to the Goldert Grand Cru. Both vineyards have the deep marl soils in common and a slow ripening of the grapes, which come from 33-year-old vines (average) that kept their acidity until the end. The wine was bottled in August 2013 and offers a very mineral, powerful and fruit-driven character with a quite well hidden sweetness of 31 grams per liter, which amplifies the elegance and balance in this accessible, stimulatingly salty and well structured wine.
