Tasting notes
The 2013 Ferrière feels rather green on the nose, rather ephemeral and simplistic. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, masculine and conservative, rather austere perhaps, although like the Haut-Bages-Liberal it recovers towards the spicy, saline finish. Sure, it is a little stolid for a Margaux but it retains respectable focus and depth, perhaps a 2013 that will repay a couple more years in bottle.

Rather tough and chunky. Lacking much in the way of primary fruit purity, relying instead on a leathery sort of finish. (RH)
Juicy, pure red fruit. Some sweet spices in place of the classic Margaux floral character. Pretty tough tannins. (RH)
The 2013 Ferriere comes across as firm and unyielding, but with good energy. If the tannins soften, the 2013 may merit a higher rating in the future. Today, though, it is a bit compact. Lavender, violets and purplish fruit linger on the intense, bracing finish.
