Medium red. Deep but reserved nose offers very ripe aromas of redcurrant, truffle, chocolate and mocha. Dense, juicy and youthful; needs time to expand on the palate, but has the integrated acidity and finishing grip to benefit from patience. I'd give this classy, lively village wine a good six years to express itself.

The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is bursting with energy and sheer verve. Firm yet well-integrated tannins provide the backbone for an expressive core of dark fruit. The wine gains finesse on the mid-palate and finish, but ultimately this needs much more time to blossom. I especially like the drive here.

75-year-old vines. All his wines have a little (convincing) earthiness on the nose. Very charming and concentrated and plush and fabulous! What richness of fruit. Tannins almost invisible. One of those village wines well worth a premier cru price. (JR)

(30% new oak; from a cooler, clay-rich site planted in the 1920s): Good dark red with ruby highlights. Reserved aromas of blueberry, maraschino cherry, menthol and bitter chocolate. Tightly wound but suave and seamless, with a juicy quality to the compact black fruit flavors. Has an excellent rocky underpinning to support a slow evolution in bottle (Bachelet told me he'd wait ten years on this one). Slow-building, subtle finish displays excellent purity and energy. Terrific potential here.
