Young and still very strapping, the 2008 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is quite the powerhouse. Lavender, tobacco and licorice weave through a core of beautifully layered, dark-toned fruit. Tonight, the 2008 is exceptionally beautiful, vivid and polished. The only issue with the 2008 vintage is that it is surrounded by years that yielded more overt Barolos, specifically 2006 and 2010. The 2008 San Giuseppe was gorgeous upon release, just as it is tonight. Tasted from magnum.

Very dark ruby. Serious, balsamic nose and really closed with only the merest hint of dried cherry and shoe polish and spice. Hugely satisfying fruit with tannic bite and tanginess on the palate. Full bodied and beautifully balanced if a little untouchable right now. (WS)

Firm, racy tannins provide the backbone for the 2008 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe. Dark, balsamic notes wrap around a core of black fruit as this powerful, strapping Barolo shows off its class. Big, chewy tannins support the huge finish in an imposing Barolo full of intrigue. It will be a number of years before the 2008 hits its stride, but it is fabulous, even today. The San Giuseppe is much less expressive than the Vignolo, which is typically the case when the wines are young. It will almost certainly blossom with more time in bottle.

Castiglione Falletto. Concentrated ruby with orange tinges. Horse saddle and sweet herbal fruit underneath. Disjointed. Cask sample? (WS)
