Tasting notes
Pale yellow with a green tinge. Subdued but very pure aromas of pineapple, clove and minerals. Larger-scaled and fatter in the mouth than the Upper Barn but quite dry, classic and closed today. This very rich, chewy chardonnay initially seemed a bit blurry with alcohol, but the fruit and mineral character emerged with aeration, and the finish is wonderfully full, sweet and long.

Crisp, with good minerality, definition, and subtle richness is the 2001 Chardonnay Three Sisters Vineyard. Orange blossom, marzipan, citrus oil, crushed stones, and a touch of smoky scents emerge from this full-bodied 2001. It offers beautiful honeyed richness, great definition, and a long finish. I even noticed a hint of papaya. Drink it over the next 7-10 years. Tel. (707) 258-3608; Fax (707) 942-5633
Nose combines a limey lift with lower-toned nutmeg and hazelnut notes. Chewy, fat and dense but quite backward today; currently the fruit and precision seem somewhat masked by alcoholic warmth. Best now on the very long finish.
