Tasting notes
Crafted from 29 year old vines, Sauzet's spectacular Batard-Montrachet offers intense mineral aromatics and a powerful, expansive, full-bodied, and profound personality. Layers of poached pears, stones, gravel, juniper berries, and spicy oak are found in this magnificently structured and focused, yet fat and oily masculine wine. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2010+. This wine had been bottled one week prior to my visit, having spent 14 months on its lees. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel (205) 980-8802.

Brooding yet surprisingly delicate aroma of apple, pear and smoky, spicy oak. Then voluminous and powerful on the palate, with superb oily depths and authoritative structure. Almost painfully backward on the decisively dry, very strong aftertaste, which features a late burst of pineapple.
