Tasting notes
The beautiful 2009 Barbaresco Sori Paolin offers outstanding intensity and clarity. The 2009 vintage was very hot in some parts of Barbaresco, but you certainly wouldn-t think so here. This is a stunning wine from every point of view. The bouquet is polished and fine with crystal clear notes of forest berry, cassis, licorice, dried mint and spice box. It brightens and energizes the palate, thanks to its crisp acidity, and the tannins are firmly present but perfectly integrated. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. Cascina Luisin makes excellent Dolcetto and Barbera, but I focused on Barbaresco and Barolo in this tasting. These wines turned out to be one of the best surprises of my time in the Langhe. Neive. From the Cru Basarin. Concentrated, youthful-looking ruby. Lifted raspberry, oak, and a touch of cooked apple. Lots of concentration, sweetness and dense, ripe tannin. Accessible, sweet lifted raspberry and cherry finish and has yet to settle. (WS)
