Tasting notes
Hand-numbered magnum number 977 of 1,460 produced. Date of harvest: 21 September 2000. Dark, almost impenetrable ruby. Sweet blackberry and cherry fruit that is a little repressed by the fine Morocco leather note. Delicious mouthful of juicy, dark fruit and with a great balance between succulent acidity and rich tannins. Not heavy or over extracted; just right. (WS)

The 2000 Caberlot presents an interesting contrast to the fresher 2001. It is a jammy, super-ripe Caberlot similar in style to the 1997 and 2003, with a plush, yet perfumed quality to its fruit. It displays awesome purity as well as notable length on the palate, although the alcohol is somewhat less well-balanced than in the other hot vintages.
A boutique winery if there ever was one (limited production, all sold in magnums), Il Carnasciale makes only one wine, a red from an old clone of Cabernet Franc whose bunches and berries resemble those of a Merlot. The wines, made under the supervision of Vittorio Fiore, have been regularly very good since the 1988 vintage, and the 2000 Caberlot is one of the best in the series, a full ruby with aromas and flavors of ripe cassis fruit, rosemary, thyme, and white pepper. Ample, round, and polished, it offers the elegant body and superior grace of high class Cabernet Franc. Drink: 2005-2015. No known American importer.
