Quite deep gold. A fully evolved nose. Broad and off dry on the palate. Lacks a little nerve perhaps but quite smoky and rich. Long with a fresh finish. Then, with some strong citrus vinaigrette (chez Troisgros) the wine seemed to taste even softer.  A good but not great vintage (bottle?) of this wine. (JR)

Wonderfully pure, high-pitched nose melds quinine, pineapple, crushed stone, orange zest, violet and lavender; smells like a current release. Densely packed and very rich, with seamless flavors of crushed wet stone, lichee and grapefruit complicated by notes of baked bread and honey. This is very much like licking a rock, and yet there are complicating hints of tropical fruits here too. Wonderfully classy, pure wine with a tactile, classy, very subtle and long finish. Still a baby, and compellingly vibrant for a wine from the 2000 vintage. The driest wine in this vertical tasting, at just 1.3 grams per liter of residual sugar.

The 2000 Clos Ste.-Hune has intense mineral and herbal tea aromas that give way to a powerful, yet backward flavor profile, densely packed with liquid minerals, spices, smoke, quinine, and candied lime. For those willing to wait, this medium to full-bodied Riesling should rival some of the greatest Clos Ste.-Hunes produced.
