The 1985 Beaune Clos des Mouches 1er Cru feels a little dusty on the nose, with light scents of wild mint and loam, but maybe just missing the ripeness one often finds with 1985 reds. The palate is of medium build, slightly leafy and missing a bit of weight on the finish. I wonder if there are better bottles out there or whether this is just past its prime. Tasted at Christie's boardroom.

Last Tasted 6/92 Fully mature, this light to medium ruby-colored wine, with only a slight tinge of amber at the edge, reveals a light intensity nose of sweet cherry fruit. Although medium-bodied and well-balanced, the wine is a bit short in the finish. Nevertheless, for an elegant, lighter-styled red burgundy requiring immediate consumption, it has its charm.
