While not up to current vintages, the 2009 Château Fonbadet is nevertheless a beautiful Paulliac, offering textbook notes of darker currant fruits, green tobacco, cedar, and spice. Medium-bodied, elegant, and mature, it has ripe tannins, rock-solid overall balance, and just a charming, complex, balanced style. It's fully mature but will have a gradual evolution over the coming decade.

One of the few unclassified growth Pauillacs, this blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot displays spicy, cedary black currant fruit, medium body and a soft, easygoing personality in a style begging for consumption over the next 8-10 years. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot. Mid meaty nose. Sweet start. A bit crude and bloody. Furry tannins and rather astringent on the finish. Some green flavours. (JR)
