From proprietor Jonathan Malthus, this single-vineyard wine emerges from 80-year-old vines on limestone that survived the devastating frost of 1956. Black cherry and blackcurrant fruit with some licorice and truffle are all present in this dense purple wine. Youthful and loaded with minerality and tannin, this is another infant at age 10. Forget it for another decade and drink it over the following 25-30 years. The final blend was 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.

This is one of the special bottlings from Jonathan Maltus’s Ch Teyssier. It didn’t show too well blind. Blackish crimson, lifted nose and very black cherry on the palate. Furry tannins on the finish. Very modern style and a bit over extracted. Not enough succulence. (JR)
Thin layer of clay over limestone – thinner than Le Carré, also from the Teyssier stable. Very very deep purplish crimson. Still quite gassy. Very sweet start and still piercing acidity. Tasted as though the malolactic had not yet been completed. (JR)
