Tasting notes
Bright, dark red. Distinctly sauvage aromas of plum, leather and minerals, with a whiff of the barnyard. Then fat, sweet and velvety, with the leathery quality carrying through on the palate. Offers a suave texture and plenty of personality, but this will not be for the fainthearted. Finishes broad and quite long, with substantial but sweet tannins.

Readers looking for a Rioja that could pass for a high-class Pomerol should check out the 2001 Remelluri. There are 3,000 cases of this elegant, complex Rioja. It exhibits a dark ruby color along with a spicy perfume of roasted herbs, mocha, and sweet plums as well as cherries. Medium-bodied, fleshy, and silky-textured, it will age well for 4-5 years.
