The 2008 Echo de Lynch Bages felt rather overdone on the nose, fig and prune-tinged black fruit that lack definition and elegance. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin, plenty of tobacco-infused black fruit with a rather austere and straight-laced finish that is the archetypal English gentleman’s claret. It feels a little hollow. I cannot see a long-term prospect here. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting.

This is the first year of Lynch-Bages's second wine with this name. There is a rich berry character in this wine, think strawberries, cherries, and raspberries. Full bodied, with fine tannins and a lovely fresh finish. So yummy now. Why wait. Dec 2010, www.jamessuckling.com
