Score 92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2012
(made from mostly Calera clone grapes picked at 24 degrees Brix): Vivid ruby-red. Deeply pitched dark berry and cherry aromas are complicated by notes of licorice, woodsmoke and dark chocolate. Lush and weighty on entry, then fresher and more lithe in the mid-palate, offering intense black raspberry and candied violet flavors with a touch of black tea. The spicy finish offers very good clarity and cling.

About the producer

Kistler
Kistler’s Chardonnays are some of the world’s most sought-after. This cult Californian producer crafts small volumes of exceptional, rich and generous, yet mineral and precise wines. With almost the entire production sold directly to their mailing list, the wines are also incredibly hard to find.
