The 2002 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru appears to be maturing gracefully with blackberry, hints of menthol, blood orange and quince. The palate is rounded on the entry with impressive depth, although I would be seeking more delineation and precision. There is a sour cherry and tarry note towards the finish that just does not quite urge me to seek another sip like other 2002s. Tasted at Sarah Marsh MW’s 2002 Red Burgundy tasting.

Good deep ruby-red. Knockout nose combines black fruits, minerals and coffee. Richer and more tactile than the Charmes but not sweeter; more massive and powerful. This boasts very strong fruit without coming across as overly sweet or heavy. A wine of compelling length, with the well-buffered tannins coating the entire palate.
Good full ruby. Sauvage aromas of black raspberry, mocha, minerals, spices and game; more reduced than the Charmes. Then sweet, lush and fleshy in the middle, but very firm and powerful on the back end. Possesses a tightly coiled spring of spicy berry fruit, complicated by notes of roasted nuts, minerals and espresso.
