Score 88/100 · Drink 2016-2028, Robert Parker, Apr 2014

From the well-known University of Bordeaux oenology professor Denis Dubourdieu, Clos Floridene is known for the reasonable prices and high quality of both its white and red wines. The 2011 red Clos Floridene displays lots of kirsch, licorice, tobacco and subtle oak and earth. Juicy and succulent with lots of spice, decent acidity for vibrancy, and a precise mouthfeel, this lovely, potentially complex wine will be even better in 2-3 years, and should keep for 10-12 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage.

From Denis Dubourdieu and his sons. 70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% old-vine Sémillon. Hand-harvested, de-stemmed and lightly crushed. Pre-fermentation maceration lasting three days. Fermented in small stainless-steel vats at 18 °C for five weeks. Aged on the lees in tank for six months. Really fine, crisp, tense wine without any oiliness. A certain whiff of gun smoke instead. Fresh and youthful with real delineation. There's a certain creaminess in reserve. Very refreshing and confident. Chewy finish. (JR)

Not especially aromatic. Clear grapefruit, lightly creamy. Crisp, really zesty. Not terribly concentrated but fresh and refreshing. Just a touch sour at the very end. (JH)
