Sweet tobacco, dried spices and leaves with red fruit on the nose. Dried beans, too. Medium-bodied with firm tannins and a savory finish. A touch dry at the end now. Drink now.

Tasted at the château, the 2006 Bellefont-Belcier has a rather distant bouquet, nicely defined, with a touch of shoe polish infusing the black fruit, later a scintilla of Hoisin. The palate is fresh on the entry with good acidity, though the tannins feel a little tough and the finish pulls up surprisingly short. Not a bad Saint Emilion, but based on this showing, I would drink bottles in the near future. Tasted March 2016.
Relatively pale with a particularly pale rim. Sweet, strangely floral nose. Very easy, rather sweet and soft palate entry. Not especially ambitious. Easy peasy. Perhaps this will put on flesh and improve? Astringency dominates a little for now. (JR)

The history of the estate dates back to the 17th century, but the estate acquired its current name from Count Louis-Francois de Belcier who took ownership of the property at the end of the 18th century.
