Score 95/100 · Drink 2014-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2014
The 1999 Paleo Rosso is beautifully fresh and vibrant to the core. Freshly cut flowers, licorice, plums, tobacco and spices all jump from the glass. Refined, silky tannins from the long growing season support the bracing finish. The 1999 is a wine built on precision. Even after all these years, there is plenty of finesse. This is the first vintage that includes a significant amount of Cabernet Franc, foreshadowing what Paleo will become just two years later.

Cabernet Franc with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Hot vintage. Blackish crimson. Burly, almost burnt nose. Tannins a little rustic, a little bit awkward. Very pointed acid and tannin. (JR)
