Tasting notes
The dense ruby/purple-colored 2000 Pandora (a limited production Syrah and Grenache blend packaged in a tall designer bottle) offers an enticing bouquet of earth, graphite, black cherries, currants, pepper, and spice. (60% grenache and 40% syrah) Full saturated ruby. An exotic spice bazaar of a nose, with slightly porty red fruit aromas, gunflint and oriental spices. Thick, creamy and seamless, with roasted fruits almost but not quite going over the top. The wine's flinty, mineral traces and an impression of saline extract enable it to maintain its balance. Finishes with impressive building persistence, with the tannins drowned in fruit. Still, this extremely ripe grenache/syrah blend may be more fun to taste than to drink.
