Drink 2015, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2015

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from Louis Latour was nailed by appearance alone - clearly much darker than its peers, disturbingly so. It is disconcertingly forward on the nose, which suggests some premature oxidation (possibly since birth?). The palate is a little petrol-like on the entry, quite spicy but simple and lacking some breeding towards the truncated finish that desperately needs more freshness and tension. This is a vexing showing.

Respectable if a little diffuse on the nose. Rich and almondy. Not as concentrated as you might want from a grand cru. Sort of ticks boxes rather than excites the senses. But on the finish there is a suggestion of future glory. Quite persistent. (JR)
