Love this, a beautifully characterful wine that is hugely appealing as it opens, the fruit is brambled, gourmet and well crafted, with a generous Pomerol spirit. The tannins have softened their grip at 11 years old. On the edge of ready to drink, a ton of black chocolate and pomegranate, with the slate and crushed rock edge of Clinet. One to look out for. 50% new oak, Ronan Laborde owner.
The 2012 Clinet has a slightly earthy bouquet: loam and decayed leaves coming through with time; this is nicely focused with just a soupçon of wild mint. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy tannins, maybe a little more feral than its peers, whilst the finish just lacks the complexity promised by the nose. It seems to be drying a little. I must confess that I was surprised when its identity was revealed. I wonder if there are better bottles? Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting.

With Ronan Laborde at the helm, this property has become one of Pomerol’s most sought-after. He has increased the proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, which historically represented half the vineyard area here.
