This 1999's aggressive new oak seems excessive for the amount of depth and fruit it possesses. There is excellent purity as well as texture, but the oak dominates at present, causing the tannin to taste dry and astringent. Nevertheless, it has the potential to become an elegant, mid-sized St.-Julien to drink during its first decade of life. Apr 2002, www.robertparker.com
