Tasting notes
Notes of leafy herbs, graphite, damp earth, and assorted darker fruits emerge from the 2008 Ormes de Pez, and it’s a mature, yet incredibly satisfying, complex, classic Saint-Estèphe. Playing in the medium-bodied end of the spectrum, with nicely integrated acidity and a classic, elegant, balanced feel, drink it any time over the coming decade or so.

The 2008 Les Ormes de Pez has an impressive bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and crushed violet/iris aromas that unfold in the glass and eventually attain impressive vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, plenty of sappy black fruit, an engaging sense of energy with a brisk, delineated finish that is nicely focused. It just needs a little more detail but otherwise this is very fine. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting.
Tasted blind. Very dark crimson. Really quite luscious on the nose and with lots of fruit concentration on the palate even if without much evolution yet. Marked acidity. All the ingredients are there… (JR)
About the producer

The Cazes family – owners of Lynch-Bages – added this Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois estate to their portfolio in 1940, just one year after they purchased Lynch-Bages. The property comprises 32 hectares of vines in the north of the appellation, close to the village of Pez.
