Lemon, mint, spruce resin, and salt spray enliven the nose from Trimbach’s principally Ottonel, 0.4 gram (!) residual sugar 2007 Muscat d’Alsace Reserve. Salty, bright, and bracing on the palate, it is a little classic of its type (a type which, sadly, is an endangered species). If you employ this at your table, you’ll find lots of clever uses over the next 2-3 years. ”The yeasts were very efficient in 2007,” notes Jean Trimbach, pointing to a collection of wines several of which are below one gram in residual sugar. The grapes and people did good work, too: I cannot recall a collection at this address that was more consistently fine. Only three special bottlings were essayed by Trimbach in 2006, all Riesling, of which the Frederic Emile and Clos Ste. Hune are among the high points of this vintage in Alsace. The only Trimbach 2007 on the market already. Mainly Muscat Ottonel (which constitutes 80% of Muscat plantings in Alsace, Muscat d'Alsace being Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains.). Only 1,000 cases. The Wine Society sell it well. Less than 0.5 g/l RS . Rather catty on the nose, bone dry. Slightly bitter finish. Not one of my favourite Trimbach wines. (JR)

Pale color. Floral nose dominated by lime blossom. Juicy, pure flavors of citrus fruit and flowers deliver very good cut and intensity and come across as bone-dry. Muscat was the toughest grape to get ripe in 2007, noted Pierre Trimbach, adding that this cuvee was chaptalized a full degree and a half, to 12.4%.
