The 1999 Barbera d'Asti Bricco dell'Uccellone is 100% Barbera aged in French oak for 15-17 months. It offers a deep ruby/purple color as well as tangy, sweet currant and cherry fruit, medium body, lovely elegance, and plenty of spicy oak. Dark ruby-red. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry and bitter chocolate, lifted by floral notes of violet and rose petal. Dense, even lush, but also juicy and penetrating, with intense dark fruit and loam flavors and excellent structure. Long finish features sweet, ripe tannins. This granddaddy of barrique-aged barberas does not come across as especially oaky.
