Tasting notes
Deep garnet colored, the 2005 The Pict has a really flamboyant nose of ripe blackberries and cherries intermingling with dark chocolate, licorice and espresso notes and loam. Big, rich and wonderfully expressive, it gives loads of flavor layers, fresh acid and a medium-firm level of grainy tannins before finishing long. Drink it now to 2020+. Importer: Wine Creek Cellars, Sonoma, CA.

(100% mataro) Opaque purple. Pungent bouquet of ripe cherry, cassis and plum, with anise and musky floral qualities adding complexity. Broad, concentrated dark fruit flavors are complemented by smoked meat and black cardamom, with chunky tannins gaining strength with air. Sweet and impressively focused on the finish, where the fruit sucks up the tannins and carries on impressively. Plenty of structure here, but the fruit appears even stronger.
