Score 90/100 · Drink 2009-2013, Robert Parker, Oct 2008

The 2007 Cotes du Rhone Les Deux Albions is sensational. A blend of 40% Syrah, 30% Grenache, and the rest equal parts Mourvedre and Clairette, a domaine wine from a 15-acre vineyard, exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as a sumptuous bouquet of exotic flowers, blackberries, cassis, and a hint of peaches. This luscious, rich, concentrated, hedonistic as well as complex 2007 should drink well for 3-4 years. Louis Barruol is more well-known for his estate-bottled cuvees of Gigondas, which, along with those of Yves Gras of Santa Duc, represent the reference points for wines from this bucolic appellation. Additionally, Barruol produces serious wines from other appellations as well, both from his estate holdings and as a negociant. Barruol’s touch with white wines is impressive.
