Magnum. Medium intense ruby. Cedary nose with Margaux perfume and some complexity and quite a dry finish. There is sufficient fruit here for tonight but I'd not want to keep this in bottle for too much longer. (Suggested drink dates refer to the wine in a regular 75cl size.) Medium persistence. (JR)

The 2000 Siran presents a pleasant bouquet of red cherries and crushed strawberry, pretty and dainty, yet perhaps not articulating the terroir like recent vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins, quite earthy and almost Saint-Julien-like in style, revealing blackberry notes toward the finish, where it fades a little when you want it to exert more grip. Still, this has an easy-drinking charm at 21 years of age.

Tasted at the vertical held at the property, the 2000 Château Siran is evolving nicely in bottle - developing quite a precocious bouquet with mulberry, blackberry and cassis scents, touches of violet in the background, quite youthful still after 15 years. The palate is medium-bodied with an appreciable grip in the mouth, fine tannins here with satisfying weight; blackberry and cassis fan out gently towards the rounded finish. Having now encountered this twice in just a few weeks, it is safe to say that this millennial is just beginning to hit a sweet spot. Who knows...it may even improve further. Tasted February 2016.

Siran

In the south of Margaux, this property has 36 hectares of vines. There’s an unusually large proportion of Petit Verdot (13%) in the vineyard, something which the team feels adds finesse, concentration and a spicy finish to the wine.
