Tasting notes
From a terrific vintage for old vine Barossa Shiraz, Penfold's 1998 Shiraz offers gorgeously sweet blackberry fruit intermixed with licorice and pepper. Spicy and medium to full-bodied, with a velvety texture, this seamless, straightforward, juicy, succulent Shiraz will drink well for 7-8 years. Bright medium ruby. Sexy aromas of tangy black raspberry, mocha and bitter chocolate. Juicy, firm and pure, with urgent flavors of dark berries and cappuccino complicated by subtle oakiness. Bright acidity really frames and extends the wine vibrant fruit. Finishes with firm but fine tannins and terrific length and verve. A superb showing.
