From magnum. Fragrant, with only the slightest hint of undergrowth. Succulent and although it is clearly very ripe, there is nothing jammy or overripe about it. Spices, a touch of leather, all in harmony, showing just a little more development than the Taille Pieds 2003. Silky texture. (JH)

Good deep red. Roasted cherry and currant on the nose. Fat and sweet but firm, with reasonably fresh cherry and raspberry fruit flavors. Finishes with dusty, building tannins and very good but not outstanding length. This will give pleasure early.

Harvested at 13.8% natural potential alcohol, the dark-colored 2003 Volnay Champans (red) offers aromas of red plums, mocha, and cherries. Medium-bodied and powerful, it sports a structured character packed with dark cherries, stones, and chocolate. Some slightly dry tannin in the finish will require d’Angerville and de Villette’s attention prior to bottling. Projected maturity: 2008-2015. Bright ruby-red. Spicy aromas of black and red fruits, with a note of chocolate and a slightly warm character. Sweet, fat and solidly built. Finishes nicely persistent, with big but broad tannins supported by the wine's material.
