Tasting notes
Moderately saturated medium red. Perfumed aromas of red cherry, flowers and spices, with a very subtle herbal component. Then lush but not sweet thanks to rather penetrating acidity. Finishes impressively long, with very fine tannins and lovely lift.

The medium-bodied 2002 Volnay Champans offers a nose of violets, roses, and black cherries. Deep, intense, and concentrated, its personality is crammed with resiny cherries as well as jammy blackberries. This flavorful, sweet wine is a candidate for drinking between 2007 and 2017. Quite closed on the nose, hinting at oak and licorice. Cooler and less showy today than the Clos des Chenes, but also fat and dense. A deeper, earthier style, while the above is more elegant and expressive. But this also has a firm acid structure. Still a bit tight on the end and in need of more time in barrel.
