Tasting notes
The 2000 Barolo Prapo, from a vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba, is muscular. Classic aromas of rose petals, tar, and licorice are followed by a palate which features red fruit, tobacco, and wild fennel. Dense and brawny, it needs some time and patience. Drink: 2006-2018. Importer: Remy Amerique, New York, NY; tel. (212) 424-2202

Medium red. Somewhat autumnal aromas of bonfire, smoky oak and spices. Juicy, spicy and firm, with less density and flesh than this producer's other 2000 Barolos. The finish here is a bit dustier and drier, with strong spicy oak showing today.

(from 34-year-old vines, the estate's oldest Barolo holding) Full medium red. Aromas of cherry, plum, smoke and menthol, plus a hint of resiny oak. Nicely balanced but reticent, with less early sweetness and more vinosity than the Brunate. Today the tannins come across as a bit drier than those of the Brunate.
