Tasting notes
47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 12% Petit Verdot. 43.7 hl/ha. Harvested 21 September to 7 October. Deep garnet hue, paler at the rim. Lifted blackcurrant and black-pepper nose. Dense and savoury on the palate, the tannins firm and muscular behind. Plenty of substance but the tannins just a touch abrasive. Could offer more if the tannins ever meld and integrate. (JL)

The 2006 Meyney has a somewhat rustic but attractive bouquet of brambly red fruit, slightly ferrous in style, with fine lift. The medium-bodied palate displays coarse tannins, missing some midpalate fruit and leaving the finish a little astringent. This ought to be better. Drink soon. Tasted at a vertical at Château Meyney.
47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 12% Petit Verdot. A soil audit was carried out this year. The château’s bottle cellar was built, affording temperature control and wine storage in conditions comparable to those of a grand cru cellar. Denis Dubourdieu became consultant oenologist. Dark crimson. Lightly bloody and fully evolved nose. Round fruit and then stony. Chewy end but there is enough fruit here. Very St-Estèphe. (JR)
