Score 92/100 · Drink 2024-2028, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Nov 2024
Although showing its age, there is plenty to admire in the now fully mature 2001 La Poja. Another warm and largely dry year, the harvest was completed ten days earlier than usual and provided grapes with thick skins and high sugars. Today, the nose offers a pleasing combination of balsam, fig and earthy red fruits. The palate still has power, richness and fleshy tannins. And the wine still retains an interesting blend of flavours ranging from red fruits (now a little dried out) to tobacco and smoked meat. This is now fully mature and feels a little austere compared to the 97.
