The 2007 Beychevelle has an attractive nose, fresher and more complex than others in this flight of off-vintages. Blackberry, briar and melted road tar intermingle, with a touch of five-spice emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, fresh and with admirable tension. While this is not a complex Beychevelle, there is focus and extant joie-de-vivre . Just pull that cork and enjoy. Tasted at the Beychevelle vertical at the property.

Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Beychevelle has a more vigorous bouquet compared directly against the 2007 Talbot: dusky black fruit, sage and a hint of espresso. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, more mature than I was expecting with a soft but cohesive, meaty/dried blood finish that has a sense of rusticity, ferrous on the aftertaste. Drink now and over the next 10-12 years. Tasted February 2017.

Still quite dark with ruby rim. Sweet dark fruit – unusual in this vintage. Chewy, alive and harmonious. Moreish and everything in place for short-term pleasure. (JH)

About the producer

Château Beychevelle 1:1
Beychevelle

With greater care in the vineyard and more precision in the winery, Ch. Beychevelle's star is rising. That's in large part due to the leadership of Philippe Blanc and investment by current owners, Japanese brewers Suntory and French wine group Castel.
