Tasting notes
The 2000 Barbaresco Gallina is from a vineyard which normally gives an elegant wine, but the hot 2000 vintage seems to have filled out the frame. Very ripe and plummy with much chocolate in the nose, its firm tar and wild fennel flavors have plenty of grip and tannic solidity on the finish, and promise very good drinking from 2005 to 2015. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300, Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. Full, deep red. Redcurrant syrup, cherry, menthol and spicy oak on the nose. Lush, sweet, oaky and seductive; in a distinctly accessible style. A fleshy, ripe, inviting wine finishing with very sweet tannins and excellent persistence.
