The 2012 Dauzac has a fresh bouquet with blackberry and pressed iris flower. It opens nicely in the glass. The palate is sweet and fleshy on the entry with fine acidity, nothing complex, but I appreciate its caressing texture and smoothness on the finish. A perfect Margaux to drink now. Tasted at the vertical retrospective at the property. The 2012 Château Dauzac, a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Merlot, is a little more rustic than the 2011: more undergrowth scents here, complemented by mint and violet. The palate is medium-bodied, missing a little depth on the entry with the fruit not quite as ripe as the 2011, and it feels a little curtailed on the finish. Maybe this was one vintage of Dauzac where I was hoping for a little more. Tasted June 2015.
Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Very austere and awkward on the palate. Just dull. (JR)
Healthy, lustrous crimson. Rather attractively old-fashioned on the nose – no flashy new oak. Very solid fruit and lots of succulent juice in a corset of solid but not excessive oak. Good stuff. Not there yet but the elements are there. Long and refreshing. (JR)

There have been many changes here over the past few decades – from changing rootstock and restructuring the vineyards, to an ever-smaller selection for the Grand Vin, making Dauzac an estate to watch.
