The 2008 Dauzac has a discrete, well-defined bouquet with blackberry, cedar and subtle iris aromas, one that gently unfolds with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite linear in style with a gritty-textured latter half. There is a pleasant sappiness to this Margaux with a fresh and lively finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting.

Tasted blind. Shaded garnet. Very evolved nose. Smooth tannins and sufficient freshness of fruit. Attractive balance but without much persistence. Just very slightly austere. (JR)

Tasted at the vertical retrospective at the property. The 2008 Château Dauzac, a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Merlot, has a backward, slightly surly nose compared to the more outgoing 2007. However, it opens up with aeration and achieves impressive delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly chalky tannin. I like the symmetry here, the acidity well judged, the tannins showing a little coarseness towards the finish and yet there is commendable length. The 2008 marks a step up in terms of quality from previous vintages and is definitely worth looking out for. Tasted June 2015.
