Maucaillou’s 2012 Moulis is a strong effort in the vintage. Deep ruby/purple, with notes of cassis and other black fruits, it is medium-bodied, with good, soft, ripe tannins and a lush finish. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. A sleeper of the vintage.

Bright dark crimson. Pure, zesty dark fruit. Not a lot of flesh in the middle but enough to fill the firm but fine-boned tannic structure. Juicy and fresh on the finish. (JH)

Fragrant, fresh fruit on the nose. A hint of liquorice. Again, the fruit seems submerged in drying oak. Very painful on the palate at the moment. Not enough fruit concentration in the middle. (JR)
