The 2001 is an excellent as well as reasonably priced effort from Maucaillou. Once past the aggressive oak component (which quickly calms down), the bouquet of sweet cassis as well as the fleshy, textured mouthfeel are both impressive. Enjoy it over the next 5-8 years.

About the producer
Owned by the négociant Dourthe, this Moulis property has 87 hectares of vines today (with 67 added by Philippe Dourthe since 1967). Managed and made by an expert team, the quality here is hardly surprising.
