The 1994 Sandeman Vintage Porto has a light and rather straightforward bouquet with red berry fruit, clove, licorice and dried quince. It needs a little more concentration considering the vintage. The palate is balanced with plenty of cracked black pepper infusing red fruits on the entry. It is augmented by subtle notes of orange rind, red peppercorns and cloves toward the finish that is missing the depth one expects from this vintage. Drink now-2025.

Relatively pale crimson. Very developed rim. Sweet, aromatic, quite floral. Light weight and sinewy. Almost more like a sweet table wine than a vintage port. Pretty easy and with marked acidity. I can’t see this making very old bones. Rather a fast fade. (JR)
Dark crimson, still youthful but a bit dull. Extremely sweet nose. Licorice on the nose but relative simplicity on the palate. There are certainly tannins here but not quite enough weight of fruit to match them. (JR)
Big and grapey with loads of sweet fruit flavor, though slightly roasted. Full-bodied, with a short, clumsy finish. Lacks the backbone of tannins and acidity of higher-scoring Ports. Best after 2003. – James Suckling , Wine Spectator 1997
